About Our TLM Logo

Mālama Ka ‘Aina, Protecting & Honoring Mother Earth and the People

The Living Museum of California Indian Cultures logo was designed to represent the diversity and interconnectedness California First Peoples have with Mother Earth.

Eight spokes radiate from a common center at which our mission lies. The colors - blue, green, verdant green and ochre represent the ocean, the passes, the mountains and the desert. The colors blend into each other yet are solid at some point, representing how our native histories blend but yet each nation's history remains distinctive.

The medicine basket brings good medicine to all people.

The spiral of life represents perpetuity and time immemorial - there is no beginning and no end. ~

“Mālama ka ‘aina” in the Native Hawaiian language, means caring for, protecting, and honoring the land. Mālama ka ‘aina is at the core of indigenous Native Hawaiian culture and guides the current Hawaiian sovereignty.
